The MAX1556ETB is a low-current (16µA), fixed-frequency buck regulator. These converters feature high operating frequency, low quiescent current, and low dropout voltage. The low quiescent current (27µA) makes them ideal for portable devices powered by a single lithium-ion battery or three alkaline/NiMH batteries. The MAX1556 can deliver up to 1.2A of current, with pin-selectable output voltages of 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V, or an adjustable output. The MAX1557 can deliver up to 600mA of current, with pin-selectable output voltages of 1V, 1.3V, and 1.5V, or an adjustable output.
The MAX1556ETB incorporates a low-on-resistance internal MOSFET switch and a synchronous rectifier to provide efficient, low dropout performance with minimal external components. Using a proprietary topology, it ensures excellent performance under both light and full load conditions in a high fixed-frequency operating mode. A 1MHz PWM switching frequency minimises external component size. Both devices feature adjustable soft-start functionality to reduce transient load changes on the battery.
The MAX1556ETB is available in a compact 10-pin TDFN (3mm x 3mm) package.
