The LTC3789EGN is a high-performance buck-boost switching regulator controller capable of operation when the input voltage is higher than, lower than, or equal to the output voltage. Employing a constant frequency, current mode architecture, the device provides a phase-locked frequency up to 600kHz, whilst an output current feedback loop enables support for battery charging. With a wide input and output range of 4V to 38V (maximum 40V) and seamless, low-noise transitions between operating regions, the LTC3789 is an ideal choice for automotive, telecommunications and battery-powered systems.

The controller's operating mode is determined via the MODE/PLLIN pin. This pin selects between pulse-skipping mode and forced continuous mode operation, and permits synchronisation of the IC to an external clock. Pulse-skipping mode achieves low ripple under light load conditions, whilst forced continuous mode operates at a fixed frequency to satisfy noise-sensitive applications.

A power good output pin provides an indication when the output is within 10% of its design setpoint. The LTC3789EGN is available in a low-profile, 28-pin narrow SSOP package.
