Product Description

The SN6505ADBVR is a low noise, low EMI push-pull transformer driver designed for small isolated power supplies. The device drives a thin, mid-tap transformer from a 2.25V to 5V DC supply. Ultra-low noise and EMI are achieved through slew rate control of the output switching voltage and spread spectrum clocking (SSC). The SN6505x consists of an oscillator followed by a gate driver circuit that provides a compensated output signal to drive the ground-referenced N-channel power switch. The device contains two 1A power MOSFET switches to ensure proper startup under heavy load conditions. The switching clock can also be provided externally to accurately place switching harmonics or when operating with multiple transformer drivers. Internal protection features include 1.7A current limit, undervoltage lockout, thermal shutdown, and break-before-close circuitry. The SN6505ADBVR has a soft-start feature that prevents high inrush currents during power-up of large load capacitors. The SN6505ADBVR has a 160kHz internal oscillator for applications that require a significant reduction in radiation, while the SN6505B has a 420kHz internal oscillator for applications that require higher efficiency and smaller transformer size.
