The MAX16839ATT programmable current regulator operates over a 5V to 40V input voltage range and features an open drain, constant current draw output that provides a 100mA output drive.The MAX16839ATT is ideally suited for automotive applications as well as applications requiring a general purpose linear LED driver. The device can directly withstand automotive throw loads up to 45V.
The built-in regulator reduces the number of external components while providing ±5% output current accuracy. the MAX16839ATT includes a dimming input to control the duty cycle of the output current, allowing a wide LED dimming range. In addition, the dimming input can be used as an on/off control of the output current. In multi-string LED applications, the dimming input synchronises the LED drive current on to ensure uniform LED string brightness.
Other features include thermal protection and an open LED fault detection output. In multi-string LED applications, all FLTS pins are connected together to immediately switch off all LED strings when an open circuit is detected in one of the strings, and the open LED detection also features a fault memory to avoid flickering of the LEDs during subsequent power-ups.
