The MAX8521EWX is a professional power management (PMIC) designed to drive thermoelectric coolers (TEC) in space-constrained fiber optic modules. This device provides ±1.5A output current and controls the TEC current to eliminate harmful current surges. The on-chip FET reduces the number of external components, and the high switching frequency decreases the size of the external components.
The MAX8521EWX features precise, independently adjustable heating current limits and cooling current limits, as well as a maximum TEC voltage limit, to enhance the reliability of the optical module. There is one analog output signal to monitor the TEC current. The unique ripple cancellation technology helps reduce noise. In addition, the MAX8521EWX features a space-saving 36-ball WLP (3mm x 3mm) package with a switching frequency that can be selected from either 500kHz or 1MHz pins.
