The LTC4229CG device provides an ideal diode and Hot Swap™ functionality for a power rail by controlling two external N-channel MOSFETs. A MOSFET that functions as an ideal diode replaces a high-power Schottky diode and the associated heat sink, thereby saving power and circuit board area. Hot-swappable MOSFET control allows for safe plugging and unplugging operations of the circuit board on a live backplane by limiting the surge current. In addition, the LTC4229CG also provides protection against short-circuit faults for the power output by using a fast-acting return current limit and an electronic circuit breaker.
