Product Description

The AD7992 is a 12 bit low-power successive approximation ADC with an I2C compatible interface. The unit is powered by a single 2.7 V to 5.5 V power supply with a switching time of 2 ? s. This section contains a 2-channel multiplexer and a track and hold amplifier that can handle input frequencies up to 11MHz.

The AD7992 provides a 2-wire serial interface compatible with the I2C interface. There are two versions of this part, namely AD7992-0 and AD7992-1. Each version allows at least two different I2C addresses. The AD7992-0 supports standard and fast I2C interface modes, and the AD7992-1 supports standard, fast and high-speed I2C interface modes.

The AD7992 normally remains closed when not switching, and is powered only when switching. The conversion process can be controlled using CONVST pin, automatic conversion interval mode selected through command mode or software control, where conversion occurs between I2C write operations.

The AD7992 requires an external reference in the range 1.2 V to VDD. This allows the widest dynamic input range of the ADC. The on-chip limit register can be programmed to have the upper and lower limits of the conversion result. When the conversion result violates the programmed upper or lower limits, the open drain and out of range indicator output (ALERT) becomes valid. This output can be used as an interrupt.
