The VNI4140KTR is a monolithic device manufactured using ST's VIPower technology and is designed to drive four independent resistive or inductive loads, one side of which is connected to ground. Active current limiting prevents the system power supply from dropping out in the event of a short circuit in the load. The built-in thermal shutdown protects the chip from overheating and short circuits. In the event of an overload, the channel is automatically switched off and back on again to keep the junction temperature between TTSD and TR. If this condition brings the case temperature to TCSD, the overloaded channel will be switched off and only restarted when the case temperature drops to TCR. If more than one channel is in an overload condition, restart of the overloaded channel is not simultaneous to avoid high peak currents from the supply.
