The VN7140ASTR are single-channel high voltage side drivers, manufactured using ST's proprietary VIPower M0-7 technology in an SO-8 package. The devices are designed to drive 12 V automotive grounded loads over 3 V and 5 V CMOS compatible interfaces and provide protection and diagnostic functions.

The devices incorporate advanced protection features such as load current limiting, active management of overloads through power limiting, and overtemperature shutdown (configurable latching).

The FaultRST pin unlocks the output or disables the latch function in the event of a fault.

Dedicated multi-function multiplexed analogue output pins provide sophisticated diagnostics, including high-precision proportional load current sensing, supply voltage feedback and chip temperature sensing, as well as overload and short-to-ground, short-to-VCC and off-state open load detection.

The sense enable pin allows shutdown diagnostics to be disabled in the module's low-power mode and external sense resistors to be shared between similar devices.
