Product Description

The TPS254900IRVCRQ1 device is a USB charging port controller and power switch with battery short circuit protection. This feature provides protection for the OUT, DM_IN, and DP_IN pins. These three pins can withstand voltages up to 18V. The internal MOSFET shuts down quickly in the event of a battery short circuit. The rapid shutdown feature is important to protect the upstream DC-DC converter, processor, or hub data lines.


The TPS254900IRVCRQ1 45mΩ power switch has two selectable, adjustable current limits that support port power management by switching to a lower current limit when neighbouring ports are carrying high loads. This feature is important for systems with multiple ports and limited uplink power capacity.


The TPS254900IRVCRQ1 has a current sense output that controls the uplink power supply, maintaining 5V at the USB port even when the charge current is too high. This feature is critical for systems with long USB cables because of the large voltage drops that occur during rapid charging of portable devices.


With the current monitor, the system can monitor the load current in real time by monitoring the IMON voltage. The current monitor is useful for dynamic management of port power.
