The ADL5506ACBZ is a complete, low-cost subsystem for RF signal measurements in the 30 MHz to 4.5 GHz frequency range, with a typical dynamic range of 45 dB, and is primarily intended for use in a wide range of wireless terminal equipment. It offers a wider dynamic range and higher accuracy than solutions with discrete diode detectors, with particularly good temperature stability over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range.

The higher sensitivity also allows measurements to be made at lower power levels, thus reducing the power consumption required for coupling to the detector. The device is essentially a voltage responsive device with a typical dynamic range of 45 dB.

For convenience, the signal is internally ac-coupled to a 52 Ω external shunt resistor using a 5 pF capacitor and a wideband 50 Ω matching resistor. This high-pass coupling allows for a lower operating frequency at a slew frequency of about 19 MHz. Therefore, the signal source can be DC grounded.

As the input signal level increases from 1.25 mV rms (-45 dBm) to 224 rms (0 dBm), the ADL5506 output rises from near 0.14 V to just over 1 V.
