The ADM487EARZ is a 5 V low-power data transceiver with ±15 kV ESD protection for half-duplex communication on multipoint bus transmission lines. Designed for balanced data transmission, the device complies with TIA/EIA standards RS-485 and RS-422. The ADM487EARZ has a 1/4 unit-load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 128 transceivers to be connected to a single bus. Since only one driver is enabled at any one time, the outputs of the disabled or switched-off drivers are tri-stated to avoid overloading the bus.

The driver output slew rate is limited to reduce electromagnetic emissions (EMI) and data errors caused by reflections from improperly terminated buses. Thermal shutdown circuitry prevents excessive power consumption due to bus contention or output shorts.The ADM487EARZ devices are rated over the industrial temperature range and are available in an 8-pin SOIC package.
