The LT3950JMSE is a multi-topology DC/DC converter specifically designed to drive high current LEDs. it contains a 1.5A, 60V DMOS switch and supports an external PWM dimming PMOS. the LT3950JMSE has an internal PWM generator for dimming that maps the analogue control signals to an exponential coordinate system for defining the duty cycle of PWM dimming. Using the exponential coordinate system to define the duty cycle maintains dimming resolution over a wide range of LED currents. In addition to being a constant current source, the LT3950JMSE also provides output voltage regulation. This can be used to prevent damage to components if an open circuit LED event occurs. The programmable switching frequency provides design flexibility to increase efficiency or reduce component size. EMI can be reduced by enabling spread spectrum frequency modulation, and the switching frequency can also be easily synchronised by using an external clock to drive the SYNC/SPRD pins.The LED current can be programmed via a single external sense resistor and can be adjusted from zero to full scale using an analogue signal on the CTRL pin.
