The MAXM86161EFD optical biosensor is available as a single, ultra-low-power module and is a complete optical data acquisition system. The biosensor is specifically targeted at in-ear medical applications and is optimised to detect heart rate (HR), blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate variability (HRV). A high-efficiency PIN photodiode and an optical readout channel are located on the receiver side. The optical readout channel features a low-noise signal conditioning analogue front end (AFE) including a 19-bit ADC (analogue-to-digital converter), high-performance ambient light cancellation (ALC) circuitry, and a fence detection and replacement algorithm.
