The ISO7221CDR device is a dual-channel digital isolator. For ease of PCB layout, the channels in the ISO7221CDR are oriented in opposite directions. These devices feature logic input and output buffers, which are isolated by TI's silicon dioxide (SiO₂) isolation gate, providing electrical isolation compliant with VDE standards and up to 4000Vpk. When used with an isolated power supply, these devices prevent high voltages and isolated grounding, and prevent noise currents on the data bus or other circuits from entering the local ground or causing interference or damage to sensitive circuits.
Binary input signals are conditioned and converted into balanced signals, which are then differential-amplified by the isolation layer. Across this isolation layer, differential comparators receive logic conversion information and accordingly set or reset the trigger and output circuits. The circuit sends periodic update pulses across the isolation layer to verify that the DC output level is normal. If this DC refresh pulse is not received every 4µs, the input is considered unpowered or not actively driven, and the fail-safe circuit drives the output to a logic high state.
The time constant provides fast operation, with a signal transmission rate range of 0Mbps (DC) to 150Mbps (the signal transmission rate on the line is the number of voltage conversions per second, expressed in bps). Option A, Option B, and Option C devices have TTL input thresholds and include input noise filters to prevent transient pulses from being transmitted to the device's output. Option M devices have CMOS VCC/2 input thresholds, no input noise filters, and no additional propagation delay.
ISO7221CDR devices require two 2.8V (Class C), 3.3V, 5V power supplies or any combination of these power supplies. When powered by 2.8V or 3.3V power supplies, all inputs can withstand 5V voltage, and all outputs are 4mA CMOS.
The ISO7221CDR device operates over an ambient temperature range of –40°C to +125°C.
