The ISO7220CDR devices are dual-channel digital isolators. For ease of PCB layout, the channels are orientated in the same direction in the ISO7220x and in opposite directions in the ISO7221x. These devices have logic input and output buffers that are isolated by TI's Silicon Dioxide (SiO2) barrier, providing VDE-compliant galvanic isolation up to 4000VPK. When used with isolated power supplies, these devices block high voltages and isolated grounds, and prevent noise currents on data buses or other circuits from going to local ground or interfering with or damaging sensitive circuits.
The binary input signal is conditioned and converted to a balanced signal, which is then differentiated by an isolation layer. Across this isolation layer, the differential comparator can receive logic conversion information and then set or reset the flip-flop and output circuitry accordingly. The circuit will send periodic update pulses across the isolation layer to verify that the DC output level is normal. If this DC refresh pulse is not received every 4µs, the input is considered to be unpowered or not actively driven, and the fail-safe circuitry will drive the output to a logic high state.
