The LTC4270BIUK is a 12-port Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) controller designed for use in Power over Ethernet (PoE) systems that comply with the IEEE 802.3at Type 1 and Type 2 specifications (high power). The transformer-isolated communication protocol replaces expensive optocouplers and complex isolated 3.3V power supplies, resulting in significant BOM cost savings. The LTC4270BIUK chip offers industry-low thermal dissipation through the use of low RDS(ON) external MOSFETs and 0.25Ω sense resistors.

Advanced power management features include a 12-bit per port current monitoring ADC, DAC programmable current limits, and universal fast shutdown for pre-selected ports. The Advanced Power Management host software is available with a free licence, and PD Discovery employs a proprietary dual-mode, 4-point detection mechanism that ensures superior protection against PD false detections. Mid-span PSE support is provided with a two-event classification capability and a 2s delay timer.

The LTC4270BIUK includes an I2C serial interface that operates at frequencies up to 1MHz. The LTC4270BIUK has a variety of power stages to provide up to 90W of PD power.
