The Texas Instruments (TI) MSP430 family of ultra-low-power microcontrollers consists of multiple devices featuring different sets of peripherals for multiple applications. The architecture, combined with five low-power modes, is optimised for extended battery life in portable measurement applications. The devices feature a powerful 16-bit RISC CPU, 16-bit registers and a constant generator for maximum coding efficiency. A digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) enables wake-up from low-power to operational mode in less than 1µs.

The MSP430G2001IPW4RQ1 is an ultra-low-power mixed-signal microcontroller featuring a built-in 16-bit timer, up to 24 I/O pins with touch-sensing support, a multi-purpose analogue comparator, and built-in communications capability using a universal serial communications interface. 

Typical applications include low-cost sensor systems that capture analogue signals, convert them to digital values, and then process the data for display or transmission to a host system.
