The LTC3300ILXE-1 is a Fault Protection Controller IC for transformer-based bi-directional active balancing of battery packs with multiple cells. The device integrates all relevant gate drive circuitry, high accuracy battery sensing, fault detection circuitry, and a rugged serial interface with built-in watchdog timer.

Each LTC3300ILXE-1 is capable of balancing up to six series-connected cells using an input common-mode voltage of up to 36V. Charge from any selected cell can be transferred back and forth between itself and 12 or more neighbouring cells at high efficiency.The LTC3300ILXE-1 has a unique level shifted SPI-compatible serial interface that allows multiple LTC3300ILXE-1 devices to be connected in series without the use of opto-couplers or isolators, thus enabling charge balancing for each of the cells in a long string of connected cells. The LTC3300ILXE-1 devices can be connected in series without the use of optocouplers or isolators to achieve charge balance for each cell in a long string of connected cells.

When multiple LTC3300ILXE-1 devices are connected in series, they are able to operate simultaneously, allowing all cells in a battery pack to be independently charge balanced at the same time. Fail-safe features include read-back capability, cyclic redundancy check (CRC) error detection, volt-second maximum on-time clamping, and overvoltage shutdown.
