The AD2428WCCSZ-RL Automotive Audio Bus (A2B®) provides a multi-channel, I2S/TDM link between two nodes up to 15 m apart. It enables bi-directional synchronous pulse code modulation (PCM) data (e.g. digital audio), clocking and synchronous signal transmission over a single pair of differential cables. the A2B supports direct point-to-point connections, allowing different locations to have multiple daisy-chain connected nodes for contributing and/or using time division multiplexing (TDM) channel content.
The A2B is a single host, multi-slave system with the transceiver in the master controller acting as the host. This master can generate clocking, synchronisation and framing signals for all slave nodes. The host A2B transceiver can be programmed for configuration and readback via the control port (I2C), an extended version of this control port is built into the A2B data stream, allowing direct access to the registers and status information of the slave transceivers and enabling cross-distance I2C to I2C communication.
The transceiver can be connected directly to general purpose digital signal processors (DSPs), field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), microphones, analogue to digital converters (ADCs), digital to analogue converters (DACs) and codecs via a multi-channel I2S/TDM interface. It also provides a pulse density modulation (PDM) interface for direct connection of up to four PDM digital microphones.
Finally, the transceiver supports the A2B bus power feature, where the host node supplies voltage and current to the slave node via a twisted pair cable connected by the same daisy chain used for the communication link.
