The MAX22212AUI integrates a high-current 36V, 7.6AMAX H-bridge that can drive a brushed DC motor or half a stepper motor.The H-bridge FETs have very low impedance, resulting in high drive efficiency and low heat generation. Typical total RON (HV side + LV side) is 0.125Ω. The H-bridge can be PWM controlled with three logic inputs (DIN1, DIN2, and EN).
The MAX22212AUI has a precise current drive regulation (CDR) that can be used to limit the start-up current of a brushed DC motor or to control the phase current of a stepper operation. The bridge output current is detected by a non-dissipative integrated current detector (ICS) and then compared to a user-configurable set point (ITRIP). When the bridge current exceeds the setpoint, the device forces attenuation for a fixed turn-off time (tOFF). Four different attenuation methods are supported (slow attenuation, fast attenuation, and two mixed attenuation modes). The non-attenuating ICS eliminates the bulky external power resistors normally required for this function, resulting in significant space and power savings compared to mainstream applications based on external detection resistors.
