The AD7779ACPZ contains eight channels of 24-bit synchronous sampling analogue-to-digital converters (ADCs) designed to ensure that circuit breaker devices are able to power up quickly in smart grid systems. There are eight full sigma-delta ADCs on-chip. The eight synchronous sampling channels measure the output values of current and voltage sensors in three-phase power applications. Each input channel has a programmable gain stage for gains 1, 2, 4, and 8 to map low amplitude sensor outputs into the full scale ADC input range. This design maximises the dynamic range of the signal chain. A dynamic range of 112 dB at 8 kSPS is achieved, enabling protection integration and measurement functions on a single ADC channel.
