Product Description

The MAX14870ETC motor driver provides a small size, low power and easy solution for driving and controlling brushed DC motors and relays from 4.5V to 36V. Very low drive on-resistance reduces power consumption.


The driver features a charge-pump-less design to reduce external components as well as lower supply current. Integrated fast decay current regulation allows the user to adjust the peak current of the starter motor and minimises the number of external components required.


Independent input voltage sensing (SNS) reduces current detection errors caused by parasitic resistors in the alignment. the MAX14870 has pass-through protection and an internal continuity diode that absorbs motor sense current. The driver outputs are short-circuit protected against short circuits to ground, short circuits to the power supply, and short circuits from M1 to M2. FAULT outputs a low-level signal during an overheat or overcurrent fault.


The MAX14870 has PWM and direction control inputs for direction control.


The MAX14870ETC is available in a 12-pin (3mm x 3mm) TDFN-EP package and operates over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range.
