The LTC3704EMS is a wide input range, current mode, positive-to-negative DC/DC controller designed to drive an N-channel power MOSFET with minimal external components. The LTC3704EMS is suitable for low to high power applications and eliminates the need for an additional current sense resistor by utilising the on-resistance of the power MOSFET, thereby maximising efficiency.

The operating frequency of this IC can be set within the range of 50kHz to 1MHz using an external resistor, or synchronised to an external clock via the MODE/SYNC pin. Due to its burst mode operation under light load conditions, the LTC3704 features a low minimum operating supply voltage of 2.5V and a low shutdown quiescent current of 10μA, making it an ideal choice for battery-powered systems.

For applications requiring constant frequency operation, the MODE/SYNC pin can be used to disable burst mode operation. By connecting the SENSE pin to a resistor located at the source of the power MOSFET, the LTC3704EMS can be used in applications where the switching voltage exceeds 36V.

The LTC3704EMS is available in a 10-pin MSOP package.
