The LM96163CISDX is a digital temperature sensor introduced by Texas Instruments (TI) that features remote and local temperature monitoring capabilities and integrated PWM fan control. The chip is packaged in a 10-WSON (3x3mm) package and supports SMBus/I2C interfaces, making it widely applicable in computer processors, GPUs, ASIC thermal management, and industrial control equipment.

Temperature Monitoring

Local Temperature Measurement: Monitors the chip's own temperature (-40°C to +85°C).

Remote Temperature Measurement: Supports diode-connected transistors (e.g., 2N3904) or built-in thermistors in CPUs/GPUs, with a maximum measurement range of 255.875°C and accuracy of ±3°C.

TruTherm BJT Compensation Technology: Optimises temperature measurement accuracy for processors manufactured using 45nm/65nm/90nm processes.  

Smart Fan Control  

Integrated PWM output (22.5kHz) to drive a 4-pin fan.

12-step programmable lookup table (LUT) supports non-linear temperature control curves, reducing fan noise.  

RPM input for real-time monitoring of fan speed.  

Alarm and Protection  

ALERT output: Notifies the host of abnormal temperature.  

TCRIT output: Triggers system shutdown (critical temperature protection).
