Product Description

The TDF8546JV is one of a new generation of complementary quad bridge-to-load (BTL) audio power amplifiers for automotive applications, featuring an optimal energy-efficiency mode and full I2C bus control diagnostics, including start-up diagnostics. It features an optimal efficiency mode and full I2C bus control diagnostics, including start-up diagnostics.The TDF8546JV operates at battery voltages as low as 6 V, making it suitable for stop/start operation in automobiles.


The new optimal efficiency principle uses patented switching technology to reduce switching distortion. In order to reduce power consumption, the new optimal efficiency principle uses audio information from all four channels instead of just the front or rear signals. When used for front-to-back correlated audio signals, the dissipation is more than 65% lower than standard BTL. When used for front-to-back uncorrelated (delayed) audio signals, the dissipation is 35% less than standard BTL. 17% less power consumption than standard BTL for uncorrelated audio signals when using pre or post information.


The TDF8546JV amplifier uses a Silicon On Insulator (SOI)-based BCD process with a complementary DMOS output stage.The DMOS output stage ensures a high power output signal and perfect sound quality. The SOI-based BCD process ensures that the amplifier is robust, with no latch-up, good separation between the four independent channels, and each element is isolated with no base current.

 Extreme Best Efficiency Mode (using 4 channels of information) reduces the dissipation of uncorrelated signals by up to 17% compared to 2-channel Best Efficiency Mode.

 Operates in legacy mode (non-I2C bus) or I2C bus mode (3.3 V and 5 V compliant)

 Four hardware-programmable I2C bus addresses

 Speaker fault detection

 Start-up diagnostics with load detection: open, short, present; filters for door slam and flutter relays

 AC load (tweeter) detection with low and high current modes

 Gain selection after start-up without sound interference

 Individually selectable soft mute for front and rear channels

 Programmable gain (26 dB and 16 dB), independently programmable for front and rear channels Line driver mode supports engine start at battery voltages as low as 6 V (16 dB and centre tap voltage 0.25 VP)

 Programmable pinch point detection: 2%, 5% or 10

 Programmable thermal pre-alarm

 Pin STB Programmable/multiplexed secondary clip detection

 Clip information for each channel can be directed to pin DIAG or pin STB, respectively.

 Over-temperature, clamp or load fault messages (shorted load, shorted VP or shorted ground) independently enabled on pin DIAG

 Ground Loss and VP Open Safety (minimum series resistance required)

 All amplifier outputs are protected against short circuits to ground, supply voltage and across the load (channel independent)

 All pins can be shorted to ground

 Temperature controlled gain reduction to prevent audio leakage at high junction temperatures

 Programmable battery low voltage detection for 7.5 V or 6 V minimum battery voltage operation

 Overvoltage protection (load-drop safe, up to VP = 50 V), 16 V overvoltage warning
