The MAX25606ATP/VY+ 6-switch matrix manager IC for automotive lighting applications contains a 6-switch matrix for bypassing individual LEDs in single or dual string applications. A single power supply can be used to power all the LEDs in series. The brightness of each LED can be adjusted by switching the bypass switch on and off for each LED. The device can also be configured for use in dual string applications, with each string containing three series switches. Each switch can be connected across one, two or three series LEDs. The IC also contains an internal charge pump to power the gate drivers of the switches.
The IC has a universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) communication interface. Each switch can be switched on, off or PWM modulated by a 12-bit PWM duty cycle adjustment. Conversion between the two different PWM settings can be done instantaneously, or logarithmic fading conversion can be applied. The logarithmic fading algorithm is built into the device and requires only one software command. The IC provides protection against open LEDs and can provide open and shorted LED fault reporting via a serial interface. The device is available in a 20-pin 4x4mm side-wettable TQFN package and a 20-pin ultra-thin tight miniature package (TSSOP) with exposed pads. The device is AEC-Q100 Class 1 certified and can operate over the full temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
