The ISL32478EIBZ are fail-safe extended common mode range differential transceivers that exceed the RS-485 and RS-422 standards for balanced communications. The RS-485 bus pins (driver output and receiver input) are fail-safe against overvoltages up to ±60V and ESD impact up to ±16.5kV without latch-up. In addition, these transceivers can operate in environments with common mode voltages up to ±15V (exceeding RS-485 requirements), making this fail-safe RS-485 family one of the most robust on the market.

The transmitter (Tx) provides a special 2.5V (typical) differential output voltage to the RS-485 specified 54Ω load. This produces better noise immunity than standard RS-485 ICs or allows for up to six 120Ω terminals in a star topology.
