The MAX31840ATA is an LED driver IC for dimmable 12V MR16 as well as AR111 and other 12V lighting applications. This new generation of MR16 LED drivers integrates value-added features such as deep dimming, bleed control, constant brightness control and boost FETs, which compresses the BOM count, cost and board space; and significantly improves electronic transformer compatibility with standard back-edge dimmers. The MAX31840 supports a step-up architecture to replace 35W and higher power MR16 LED bulbs.
The MAX31840ATA is a high-end MR16 LED driver with built-in proprietary circuitry that enables deep dimming down to ~1%; a 10% or 20% performance improvement over other devices that only support conventional dimming. By integrating a drain circuit and a constant brightness controller, the MAX31840 not only emits light and is strobe-free, but also supports a variety of electronic transformers. Optimised compensation circuits and boost FETs are also integrated to further reduce BOM and board space, simplifying design and saving costs.
The MAX31840ATA is available in an 8-pin, 3mm x 3mm TDFN power-enhanced package, and is rated for operation over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range.
