The TPS43330AQDAPRQ1 contains two current-mode synchronous buck controllers and one voltage-mode boost controller. Ideally suited as a pre-regulator stage where low quiescent current (Iq) is required, this device is also ideal for applications that require no damage when experiencing a power drop due to an unexpected event. The integrated boost controller allows the device to operate at inputs as low as 2V without the dropout of a buck regulator output stage. At light loads, the buck controller can be enabled to automatically operate in low-power mode, consuming only 30μA of quiescent current.
The buck converter has a separate soft-start function and a power up indicator. External metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) protection is provided by current foldback in the buck controller and cycle-by-cycle current limiting in the boost controller. The switching frequency is programmable from 150kHz to 600kHz or can be synchronised to an external clock in the same range.
