The MAX3243ECPWR is a high-performance, low-power RS-232 transceiver chip. The device comprises three line drivers, five line receivers, and a dual charge pump circuit, offering ±15kV ESD protection (HBM and IEC61000-4-2, air gap discharge) and ±8kV ESD protection (IEC61000-4-2, contact discharge) on the serial port connection pins. The device complies with TIA/EIA-232-F requirements and provides an electrical interface between asynchronous communication controllers and serial port connectors. This combination of drivers and receivers meets or is compatible with the requirements for typical serial ports used in IBM PC/AT systems. The charge pump and four small external capacitors support operation from a single 3V to 5.5V supply. Additionally, the device incorporates a permanently active common-mode output (ROUT2B), enabling applications utilising ring indication to transmit data even when the device is powered down.
