The VL53L1 is a state-of-the-art time-of-flight (ToF) laser ranging miniature sensor that enhances ST's FlightSense product portfolio. It is available in a miniature reflowable package with integrated single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) arrays, physical IR filters and optics for optimal ranging performance in a wide range of ambient lighting conditions and a wide coverage window.
Unlike conventional infrared sensors, the VL53L1 uses ST's latest generation direct ToF technology to enable absolute distance measurement regardless of the target's colour and reflectivity. It provides accurate range measurement over 4 metres and can operate at high speed (60 Hz), making it the fastest miniature ToF sensor on the market.
With its patented algorithm and clever modular architecture, the VL53L1 is also able to detect different objects within the field of view (FoV) at 60Hz to understand their depth.
The VL53L1 can now perform scene browsing and multi-zone detection thanks to a software customisable detection array for faster 'touch focus' or micro depth map use cases.
