The DS1338U-18 Serial Real-Time Clock (RTC) is a low-power, fully binary-coded decimal (BCD) clock/calendar, plus 56 bytes of NV SRAM. addresses and data are transferred serially over the I2C interface. The clock/calendar provides seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information. For months with fewer than 31 days, the end-of-month date is automatically adjusted, including leap year correction. The clock operates on a 24-hour or 12-hour schedule with an AM/PM indicator.The DS1338U-18 has a built-in power-sense circuit that detects power failures and automatically switches to an alternate power source to keep the time and date running.
