The ADP5588ACPZ is an I/O port expander and keyboard matrix designed for QWERTY telephones requiring large keyboard matrices and extended I/O lines. This I/O expander IC addresses the limitation of GPIO pins on the main processor within mobile platforms.
Housed in a compact 4 mm × 4 mm package, the ADP5588ACPZ possesses sufficient capability to handle all key scanning and decoding tasks, signalling key presses and releases to the processor via an I²C® interface and interrupts. This frees the main microprocessor from keyboard monitoring duties, thereby reducing current consumption and increasing processor bandwidth. It incorporates a buffer/FIFO and key event counter, capable of processing and tracking up to 10 pending key presses or GPIO events through overflow line-clear and interrupt functionality.
The ADP5588ACPZ incorporates a keyboard lock function, with the option to trigger or suppress interrupts upon key press and release. All communication with the host processor is accomplished via a single interrupt line and two I²C-compatible interface lines. The ADP5588ACPZ can be configured for keyboard matrices of up to 8 rows × 10 columns (maximum 80 keys).
