The PCA9505DGGY provides 40-bit parallel input/output (I/O) port expansion for I²C bus applications in 5 groups of 8 I/O. The outputs are capable of pulling out 10 mA and sinking 15 mA at a 5 V supply voltage, allowing direct driving of up to 40 LEDs at a total package load of 600 mA. any of the 40 I/O ports can be configured as an input or output. The output ports are totem pole and their logic state changes on Acknowledge (group change). The PCA9505 is identical to the PCA9506 except for the 100 kΩ internal pull-up resistors on all I/Os.

2.3 V to 5.5 V operation with 5.5 V tolerant I/Os
40 configurable I/O pins default to inputs at power-up
100 kΩ internal pull-up resistors are included on all I/Os of the PCA9505
Outputs:
Totem pole (10 mA pull-out, 15 mA sink) with edge-rate controlled output structure
Active-low output enable (1) input pin tri-states all outputs
Change output state on Acknowledge
Open-drain active-low interrupt (1) output pin allows monitoring of logic level changes on pins programmed as inputs
Input:
Programmable interrupt mask control for input pins that do not require an interrupt for a state change
Polarity Reversal Register allows the polarity of I/O pins to be reversed on reads
Active-low reset (1) input pin restores the device to its power-up default state
3 programmable address pins allow up to 8 devices on the same bus
Can be inserted with power
Line interference minimisation (IOFF and power-up tri-state)
Signal transient suppression (50 ns noise filter and robust I²C bus state machine)
Low standby current
