The DS125MB203SQ device is a dual-port 2:1 multiplexer and 1:2 switch or fan-out buffer with signal conditioning capabilities, suitable for data transmission rates up to 12.5 Gbps in 10GE, 10G-KR (802.3ap), Fibre Channel, PCIe, wireless bandwidth, SATA3/SAS2, and other high-speed bus applications. The receiver's continuous-time linear equaliser (CTLE) provides the necessary boost performance to compensate for cables up to 30 inches in length for FR-4 or 8M cables (AWG-24) at 12.5Gbps. This on-chip feature eliminates the need for external signal conditioners. The transmitter features programmable amplitude voltage levels, selectable from 600 mVp-p to 1300 mVp-p, while achieving up to 12dB of de-emphasis.

The DS125MB203SQ can be configured to support PCIe, SAS/SATA, 10G-KR, or other signal transmission protocols. When operating in 10G-KR and PCIe 3rd generation modes, the DS125MB203SQ transparently allows the host controller and endpoint to optimise the entire link and negotiate transmit equaliser coefficients. This seamless management of the link negotiation protocol ensures system-level interoperability and minimises latency.

This programmable configuration can be applied via pin settings, the SMBus (I2C) protocol, or directly loaded from an external EEPROM. When operating in EEPROM mode, configuration information is automatically loaded at power-up, eliminating the need for an external microcontroller or software driver.
