Product Description

The BQ24781RUYR is a SMBus 1- to 4-cell step-down battery charge controller that supports hybrid boost mode.


The BQ24781RUYR has the following features:

Input and output ranges: Charges 1 to 4-cell battery packs from 4.5V to 24V adapters, with battery charging voltages ranging from 1.024V to 19.2V.

Control Topology: Switch-Mode Buck control topology.

Supported Battery Types: Supports multiple battery chemistries including Li-ion/Li-polymer, Li-FePO4, Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, and more.

Hybrid Boost Mode: Adapter and battery can be used together to power the system, which can be entered within 150μs to respond to ultra-fast transients; battery-only boost mode is also supported to extend battery runtime.

Input Current Limiting: Two levels of input current limiting for peak power to increase adapter power and reduce battery discharge.

Monitoring Features: Highly accurate power and current monitoring for CPU throttling, including full PROCHOT configuration, ±2% current monitor accuracy, ±5% system power monitor accuracy (PMON).

Auto Power Selection: Automatically selects either the adapter or battery as the NMOS power source, with the ACFETs turning on quickly within 100μs when removed from the battery to exit learning mode.

Programmability: Programmable input current, charge voltage, charge and discharge current limits with ±0.4% (16mV/step) charge voltage accuracy, ±2% (64mA/step) input current accuracy, ±2% (64mA/step) charge current accuracy, and ±2% (512mA/step) discharge current accuracy.

High level of integration: integrated battery LEARN function, battery presence monitor, boost mode indicator, loop compensation, BTST diode and other functions.

Safety features: Enhanced safety features such as over-voltage protection, over-current protection, battery, inductor and MOSFET short circuit protection.

Switching Frequency: 300kHz, 400kHz, 600kHz and 800kHz switching frequencies are supported.

Real-time system control: Real-time system control of ILIM pins to limit charge and discharge currents.

Low standby current: 0.65mA adapter standby quiescent current for Energy Star.

Operating Temperature Range: Operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.

Package: 4x4mm in a WQFN (RUY) 28-pin package.
