The TPS55340RTER is a monolithic non-synchronous switching regulator with an integrated 5A, 40V power switch. The device can be configured into a variety of standard switching regulator topologies including boost, SEPIC and isolated flyback. The device has a wide input voltage range to support applications powered by multiple batteries or via 3.3V, 5V, 12V and 24V regulated supply rails.

The TPS55340RTER uses current mode PWM (pulse width modulation) control to regulate the output voltage and is equipped with an internal oscillator. the PWM switching frequency is set by an external resistor or synchronised to an external clock signal. The switching frequency can be set by the user between 100kHz and 1.2MHz.

The device has a programmable soft-start function to limit inrush current during start-up and other built-in protection features including cycle-by-cycle overcurrent limiting and thermal shutdown.

The TPS55340RTER is available in a small 3mm × 3mm 16-pin QFN package with PowerPAD and a 14-pin HTSSOP package for enhanced thermal performance.

The 5A, 40V TPS55340 boost converter in the HTSSOP-14 package is pin-to-pin compatible with the 3A, 40V TPS61175 and extends the maximum input voltage from 18V to 32V.
