The AFE4432YCHR is an analogue front-end for optical biosensing applications such as heart rate monitoring (HRM) and peripheral capillary oxygen saturation (SpO2) measurements. The device supports up to four switching light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and three photodiodes (PDs.) The AFE has two LED drivers with 8-bit current control. The device features wide dynamic range transmit and receive circuits to help detect very small signal levels. Up to 12 signal phase sets can be defined, each containing a combination of LED and ambient phases. A low-noise detuning DAC at the receiver input is automatically controlled to eliminate DC from ambient and LED light. In each phase, the current generated by the PD is converted to voltage by the TIA, filtered, and then digitised using a general purpose ADC, the code of which can be stored in a 160 sample FIFO block. The FIFOs can be read using the SPI or I2C interface.

- Each TIA input has a separate ambient offset voltage cancellation DAC with 8-bit control of each phase, adjustable up to 255μA
- Each TIA input has a separate LED offset derating DAC with 9-bit phase control and 64μA range
- Digital ambient cancellation on ADC outputs
- Noise filter with programmable bandwidth
- Transimpedance gain: 3.7 kΩ to 1 MΩ
- Supports external clock or internal oscillator
- Option to acquire data in synchronisation with the system clock
