TDK has launched the new ACT1210E series (3.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 mm (L x W x H)) common-mode filter for automotive Ethernet 10BASE-T1S. The new common-mode filter will be available in volume production from February 2023.

It is the industry's first common-mode filter for automotive Ethernet 10BASE-T1S and features TDK's proprietary winding structure and optimal materials to achieve the industry's highest S-parameters (scattering parameters), a maximum inter-wire capacitance of 10 pF and an operating temperature range of -40 to +125°C. High thermal shock resistance and high reliability are achieved by laser welding the winding wires to metalised terminals. This is achieved by laser welding the winding wires to the metalised terminals.

With more and more attention being paid to autonomous driving in cars, the installation of electronic control units (ECUs) related to safety functions such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is increasing day by day. Among the Ethernet communication standards, only 10BASE-T1S supports a multipoint topology, allowing the connection of multiple ECUs. 10BASE-T1S differs in this respect from 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1, which only support P2P communication. More and more customers are now considering converting the CAN, CAN FD and Flex-Ray standards, which support multipoint connectivity, into Ethernet systems to achieve uniformity across standards. The new products will prove to meet these needs with features that will improve communication quality and suppress noise.

TDK offers a wide range of common mode filters for automotive applications, including filters that meet the requirements of not only the current mainstream CAN, CAN FD and Flex-Ray protocols, but also Ethernet protocols such as 100BASE-T1 and 1000BASE-T1 with communication rates of 100 and 1000 megabits per second respectively. TDK will continue to offer a comprehensive product range for common mode filters for automotive communications to meet customer needs.
