Texas Instruments says it will build a second 300mm semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Lehi, Utah, USA.

February 16th, according to MarketWatch, on Wednesday local time, semiconductor design and manufacturing company Texas Instruments said it will build a second 300mm semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Lehi, Utah, as part of its $11 billion (currently about 75.35 billion yuan) investment in Utah.

When completed, the second Texas Instruments facility will be combined with the existing facility and will eventually operate as one plant. The new fab will create approximately 800 additional jobs for Texas Instruments, as well as thousands of indirect jobs.


As reported in January, Texas Instruments announced that its board of directors had appointed Haviv Ilan as its next president and chief executive officer, effective April 1.


Commenting on the construction of a second fab in Utah, Haviv Ilan said that with the expected growth of semiconductors in electronics, particularly in the industrial and automotive sectors, and the passage of the U.S. Chip and Science Act, now is the best time to invest further in in-house manufacturing capabilities.
