The MAX15096GWE devices are integrated solutions for hot-swap applications that require the safe insertion and removal of circuit line cards from powered backplanes. They can also be used as electronic circuit breakers for hard disc drives, solid state drives, and fans. These devices integrate a hot-swap controller, 12mΩ (typical) power MOSFET, and electronic circuit breaker protection in a single package.
The devices are designed to protect from 2.7V to 18V supply voltage. The devices implement foldback current limiting during startup to control inrush current, reduce di/dt, and keep the MOSFETs in safe operating area (SOA) conditions. After the startup cycle, an on-chip comparator provides VariableSpeed/BiLevel™ protection against short-circuit and overcurrent faults, as well as protection against system noise and load transients. In the event of a fault, the load is disconnected. The device is factory calibrated to provide accurate overcurrent protection with ±10% accuracy.
