The MSP430 family of ultra-low power microcontrollers consists of multiple devices with different sets of peripherals for different applications. This architecture, combined with five low-power modes, is optimized to extend battery life in portable measurement applications. The device features a powerful 16-bit RISC CPU, 16-bit registers and constant generators to help maximize code efficiency. A digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) allows wake-up from low-power mode to active mode microseconds in less than 5 µs. The MSP430F543x(A) and MSP430F541x(A) families feature three 16-bit timers, a high-performance 12-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter, up to four Universal Serial Communication Interfaces (USCI), hardware multipliers, DMA, real-time clock module with alarm function and up to 87 I/O pins.
