The 87C196MH is a 16-bit microcontroller designed primarily to control 3-phase AC induction motors and DC brushless motors. The 8XC196MH is based on Intel's MCS96 16-bit microcontroller architecture and is manufactured using Intel's CHMOS process.
The 87C196MH has a 3-phase waveform generator specifically designed for ''inverter'' motor control applications, this peripheral allows the generation of pulse width modulated 3-phase sine waves with minimal CPU intervention.
The 87C196MH has 16KB of on-chip OTPROMROM and 488 bytes of on-chip RAM and is available in three package formats: PLCC (84-L) SDIP (64-L) and EIAJQFP (80-L).
