EXAMAX2® is a high speed electrical connector system for backplane, and orthogonal applications. For backplane applications (see Figure 1), the system utilizes a Right Angle Receptacle (RAR) (4, 6 and 8- pair) with a Vertical Header (VH). For orthogonal applications (see Figure 2), a Right Angle Orthogonal Header (RAOH) and a Right Angle Receptacle (RAR) are mated. A Vertical Receptacle (VR) connector also exists. The mating interface of the EXAMAX2® is backward compatible and will mate with standard ExaMAX and ExaMAX+ products, but in some instances the board spacing’s will be different. Please note that the EXAMAX2® tail pitches are different than other ExaMAX products and have components that make contact with a ground layer on top of the PCB and thus cannot be applied to a board designed for other ExaMAX products.

EXAMAX2® connectors use compliant press-fit tails to provide a reliable electrical connection between the connector and the plated through holes (PTH) of the PCB. Ground tails have a press-fit section that uses Ø0.45 mm drill through holes (Ø0.36 mm Finished Hole Size (FHS)). The VH and VR signal tails use Ø0.35 drill through holes (≈Ø0.26 mm FHS) for a PCB less than 4.2 mm thick. For boards thicker than 4.2 mm, there is an optional VH/VR with press-fit tails for Ø0.40 mm drill through holes (Ø0.31 FHS). The RAR and RAOH signal tails use Ø0.35 mm drill through holes (≈Ø0.26 mm FHS). In addition to the signal pairs and grounds, there is a single low speed signal on the end of each column that may be utilized for miscellaneous low speed signal requirements.
