The fourth-generation SHARC® processor family is now available in a low-power floating-point DSP product - namely the ADSP-21478KSWZ-2A - with higher performance, offering hardware-based filter accelerators, audio- and application-specific peripherals, as well as new memory configurations to support single-chip solutions. All devices are pin-compatible with each other and are fully code compatible with all previous SHARC processors. These newest members of the fourth-generation SHARC processor family are based on a Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) core that supports 32-bit fixed-point and 32/40-bit floating-point algorithm formats, with low-power features that make them ideal for battery-powered applications or applications with high ambient operating temperature requirements.

The ADSP-21478KSWZ-2A features extremely low power consumption and high performance - 266 MHz/1596 MFLOP - in an LQFP package, and is part of the fourth generation SHARC processor family. Its low-power characteristics make the ADSP-21478 a premium choice for automotive audio and a wide range of industrial control applications where low-power requirements exist. the ADSP-21478 not only has high core performance, but also has built-in additional processing modules such as FIR, IIR and FFT accelerators, which can dramatically increase the overall performance of the system. Variable Instruction Set Architecture (VISA) is one of the featured new functions, which can reduce code by 20 to 30 per cent, thus improving memory availability. The fourth-generation DSP provides a seamless interface to external memory for 16-bit wide SDR SDRAM.
