The AD2437BCPZY is an A2B® transceiver that provides a multi-channel, I2S/TDM link with distances between nodes of up to 30 metres. It embeds bi-directional synchronous pulse code modulation (PCM) data (e.g., digital audio), clocks, and synchronisation signals into a single pair of differential cables.The A2B supports direct point-to-point connectivity, allowing multiple daisy-chained nodes in different locations to contribute and/or consume time-division multiplexed channel content.

The A2B is a single-master, multiple-subordinate node system in which the transceiver on the master controller is the master node. The master node generates clocks, synchronisation and framing for all subordinate nodes. The master A2B transceiver is programmable via the control port (I2C/SPI) for configuration and readback.An extension to the control port protocol is embedded in the A2B data stream. This allows direct access to registers and status information on subordinate transceivers, as well as I2C-to-I2C, SPI-to-I2C, or SPI-to-SPI communications from the host to subordinate node peripherals. SPI-to-SPI communications between subordinate nodes can be performed directly without the involvement of the master node.

The transceiver directly connects to general-purpose digital signal processors (DSPs), field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), digital microphones, analogue-to-digital converters (ADCs), digital-to-analogue converters (DACs), and codecs via a multi-channel I2S/TDM interface. It also provides a pulse density modulation (PDM) interface for direct connection of up to four PDM digital microphones.

The transceiver supports bus-powered functionality, where the master node supplies voltage and current to the slave nodes via daisy-chained single-pair or XLR/DMX cables identical to the communication link.

The transceiver also supports a variety of Ethernet cables, with the A2B occupying only one pair of Category (CAT) cables. This allows the remaining CAT cable pair to be used for power transmission.
