The P82B96DPZ is a bipolar integrated circuit that creates a non-latching, bi-directional logic interface between the normal I2C bus and a range of other bus configurations. It can connect I2C bus logic signals to similar buses with different voltage and current levels.

For example, it can connect a 350 μA SMBus, a 3.3 V logic device, and a 15 V level and/or low impedance line to improve noise immunity on longer buses.

Bidirectional data transfer of I2C bus signals

Isolation capacitance allows 400 pF on the Sx/Sy side and 4000 pF on the Tx/Ty side

Tx/Ty outputs have a 60 mA sink current capability for driving low-impedance or high-capacitance buses

Operating frequency of 400 kHz on at least 20 metres of wire (see AN10148)

2V to 15V supply voltage range, IC bus logic level on the Sx/Sy side is independent of supply voltage

Splits IC bus signals into a pair of forward/reverse Tx/Rx, Ty/Ry signals for connection to optoisolators and similar devices that require unidirectional input and output signal paths.
