The Astera Labs PT4161LRS PCI Express® Gen-4 x16 low-latency intelligent retimer seamlessly integrates between the root node and the end node, extending coverage by >28dB at 16GT/s. The PT4161L meets all PCIe 4.0 rate and retimer functionality requirements, while supporting more system topologies and lower total solution cost. The PT4161L eliminates signal integrity issues with PCI-Express (PCIe) 4.0 interconnections in data-centric applications and is ideal for space-constrained applications such as system boards and riser cards.

The Astera Labs PT4161LRS PCI Express Retimer features an innovative protocol non-disruptive low latency architecture that significantly reduces latency while being transparent to system software. The architecture participates in link equalisation with the root multiplexer and endpoints to optimise link performance.The PT4161L independently adjusts its latency to maximise performance in the normal operating link state (L0) while maintaining protocol interoperability.

The PT4161LRS supports a variety of endpoint and port configurations that can be subdivided into one x16 link, two x8 links, four x4 links, eight x2 links, and more. In-band (receiver margin) and out-of-band (SMBus) methods are accessible through per-link diagnostic information such as link status history and electrical margin. Each link operates independently.

The PT4161LRS has a standard PCIe 100MHz HCSL input clock and 100MHz HCSL output clock to drive other Retimer devices or PCIe components.

The PT4161LRS Smart Retimer has a compact design with minimal support circuitry and integrated AC coupling capacitors. The pinout is based on the Intel Retimer Supplemental Specification and is available in an 8.9mm x 22.8mm Flip-Chip CSP package.
