China Telecom and Huawei complete the country's first 5G RedCap test for mining scenarios

China Telecom, together with Huawei and other industry partners, recently completed the countrys first RedCap test for a mining scenario in Juneng, Inner Mongolia.

China Telecom, together with Huawei and other industrial partners, recently completed the first RedCap test in Inner Mongolia's Juneng. The test results show that RedCap can meet the needs of unmanned driving, remote control and other business applications, and will promote the application of RedCap technology in 5G smart mining scenarios.


The test was conducted by China Telecom Inner Mongolia, Juneng Group, Tianyi IOT Joint Open Lab and Huawei RedCap technology team. The test team used the 3.5GHz commercial spectrum based on China Telecom's 5G mining customised private network solution to verify the basic functions, service rates, latency, network coverage capabilities and other key elements of RedCap in the smart mining scenario.


Unlike in-lab tests, this test incorporated the actual performance requirements and scenario needs of the existing network, fully validating RedCap's ability to enable production core scenarios and laying the foundation for future 5G RedCap industry solutions to be replicated at scale.


RedCap (known as Reduced Capability) is a key new 5G technology that was specifically researched in 3GPP R17. RedCap achieves the best balance of performance and cost by simplifying the number of terminal antennas and reducing transceiver bandwidth to achieve significant cost and size reductions. RedCap will fill the gap in the low-cost, mid- and high-speed 5G IoT market by providing greater performance than 4G and supporting 5G native capabilities such as network slicing, low latency and high reliability, and high capacity.
